Photofacial
Some
of the most advanced non-invasive cosmetic
technology for improving the appearance
of Rosacea, reducing redness, flushing and
broken capillaries, repairing sun damaged
skin, skin texture and age spots can be
found in Photofacial technology. This non-invasive,
non-surgical technique allows patients to
see visible results after just one treatment
and dramatic results after five.
Photofacials utilize pulsed light technology,
which is somewhat similar to laser technology
but it differs slightly. When a laser is
used, it uses one continuous light wavelength
which is penetrated into the deeper tissue
layers of the skin, Pulsed Light uses multiple
wavelengths of light, which, when delivered
into the skin, are energy concentrated at
all different tissue levels. This allows
the light to be absorbed by the melanin
in the skin therefore encouraging the production
of collagen.
As we age, our bodies produce less collagen.
When the gentle pulses of light are directed
into the skin, the heat causes damage to
the vessels triggering the body to begin
its natural healing process. When the skin
is cut or bruised, the body produces collagen
in order to heal. This procedure causes
the body to naturally produce more collagen
in order to heal the skin.
The results of this treatment include a
more even tone and overall smoothness of
the skin which leads to a more youthful
appearance. It also restores sun damaged
skin and aids in the reduction of wrinkles,
fine lines and flushing as well as redness
that is sometimes related to Rosacea.
This procedure is safe to use on the face,
neck, chest and even hands. Treatments usually
occur about every three weeks, and can take
anywhere from fifteen minutes to a half
an hour. During treatments the pulsed light
energy is delivered into the skin at different
and specific settings in order to maximize
results. It could take up to five treatments
in order to achieve a patients' desired
outcome, but many have had as many as eight
treatments.
Some patients experienced minimal discomfort
while the pulsed light was being administered.
Anesthesia can be used but is not required.
After the procedure, most patients’
levels of discomfort were minimal to non-existent.
Some patients experienced slightly flushed
skin and capillaries that were slightly
more visible but the color faded quickly
and the capillaries seemed to vanish. This
procedure is a safe, non-surgical way to
minimize the effects of aging and retain
a more healthy and youthful complexion.
