Restylane
There are various injected cosmetic fillers
that work to improve overall facial appearance
and attain a more youthful look. Some of
these include fat and collagen injections.
Restylane is a newer form of cosmetic filler
that has advantages that overcome fat or
collagen injections.
Restylane is a clear gel that is based
on a natural substance called hyaluronic
acid. This acid is found naturally within
the human body, therefore, is not harmful
when injected. The acid works mostly with
cartilage to protect joints but it helps
to protect the rest of the body as well.
Aging causes hyaluronic acid within the
body to thin, so when Restylane is injected,
it can add volume and help shape softer,
smoother and healthier skin.
Restylane is injected in tiny amounts into
the skin with a very fine needle, and joins
together with the body’s own hyaluronic
acid to cause an increase in volume. It
maintains its shape using the body’s
own moisture. The hyaluronic acid, once
injected, attaches itself to water molecules
within the body. As the acid breaks down,
every molecule binds to water, so, over
time, the same amount of volume can be retained
while using less hyaluronic acid. Through
these injections, Restylane is used to smooth
wrinkles, shape lips and form facial contours.
When used, it results in a more youthful
appearance.
The procedure involving Restylane injections
can take anywhere from a few minutes to
about an hour. It all depends on the size
of the area being treated. The use of the
fine needle minimizes pain but patients
can request an anesthetic if needed. The
injection results can be seen almost immediately.
Treatment areas may be swollen or red for
a day or so but usually no longer than that.
Many factors including age, skin type and
daily activities may influence the results
of the injections, but Restylane injections
have been known to last six months or even
longer. Overall, Restylane is a safe and
effective way to inject cosmetic fillers
that will immediately begin to restore your
youthful skin.
