The
Trager Approach
The Trager Approach is a gentle and effective
approach to the combination of the mind
and the body. This approach helps assist
in deep relaxation, improved mentality as
well as better physical mobility through
the release of negative physical and mental
problems that may have developed because
of illness, accidents, emotional stress
and/or simply the stress of everyday life.
There are two main aspects of the Trager
Approach. The first is where the client
is passive, which is referred to as table
work, and the second where the client is
active, which is referred to as Mentastics.
The first part of the approach involves
the facilitator aiding the client in natural
movements so as not to cause any pain or
discomfort. By using simple, self-induced
movements, a person is able to reach a higher
state of relaxation; thereby enabling themselves
to communicate more easily with their body.
This results in the body and mind feeling
a freer way of movement and being.
The second part of the approach, or Mentastics,
involves the client incorporating these
movements into their everyday activities.
Being more conscious of how your body moves,
will encourage relaxation and more fluid
bodily movements. The Trager Approach helps
the body to release deep physical and mental
patterns. It increases mobility and mental
clarity. Being more aware of one’s
body movements can lead to a healthier state
of mind and body and can have life-long
lasting results.
